Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr

Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr, percussionist (born 5 September 1958 in Hull, QC). The son of jazz saxophonist Al-Hajj Sayyd Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr was a member of the Dizzy Gillespie band. Both father and son appeared in the 1989 feature film A Night in Havana.

Later, Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr toured with Oliver Jones and recorded on Jones's album Just Friends. He played in Montréal clubs during the 1990s. In 2004, he performed with bassist Alain Caron of the Québec-based jazz group UZEB and was part of the concert series Final Drummer Kombat with Guy Nadon and Paul Brochu, also of UZEB.

In addition to being an accomplished performer both in the studio and in live settings, Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr has been employed as a percussion teacher at Vanier College and at Concordia University in Montréal. He is the brother of trombonist Muhammad Abdul Al-Khabyyr.
