Pierre Beaudet

Pierre (Hugues) Beaudet. Pianist, producer, b Thetford-Mines, Que, south of Quebec City, 20 Jan 1924. Brother of Jean-Marie Beaudet. He first studied piano with Léo-Pol Morin in Montreal. At the CMM 1943-6 his teachers were Germaine Malépart (piano) and Gabriel Cusson (ear training).

Pierre (Hugues) Beaudet. Pianist, producer, b Thetford-Mines, Que, south of Quebec City, 20 Jan 1924. Brother of Jean-Marie Beaudet. He first studied piano with Léo-Pol Morin in Montreal. At the CMM 1943-6 his teachers were Germaine Malépart (piano) and Gabriel Cusson (ear training). He studied privately with John Newmark. In 1947 he worked in Paris with Jean Batella (piano) and spent the summer at the American Cons at Fontainebleau with Robert Casadesus (piano) and Nadia Boulanger (interpretation). Returning to Montreal, he formed a four-hand piano duo with Guy Bourassa which recorded Archer's Ten Folk Songs and Beckwith's Music for Dancing (1954 RCI 113; Archer reissued on 7-ACM 17). Beaudet has accompanied and coached several singers, has taught piano, and has arranged and directed the music for numerous radio and TV programs. He was record librarian (1958-62), then music producer (1962-85) at CBC. He has composed several songs and has had poems published in the magazine Gants du ciel. His Chansons et poèmes retrouvés (Montreal 1989) includes a cassette featuring Janine Lachance (voice) with Beaudet at the piano.
