Leslie Music Supply Inc

Leslie Music Supply Inc. Publishing company established in 1970 in Oakville, Ont, by Joan Leslie, who had purchased the stock of the Western Music Co of Vancouver. Leslie publishes choral music for church and school and pieces for piano, organ, and recorder, much of it reprinted Western material. Leslie reprints music other publishers discontinue, giving new life to older publications by Canadian composers. Titles are assigned back to the composer, who in turn reassigns the rights to Leslie Music.

Leslie's 1991 catalogue included music by 68 Canadian composers. Leslie for a time became the Canadian distributor for Leonard, Gould and Bolttler of London, and for Brodt Music Co of Charlotte, NC. In 1991 Leslie was also the sole distributor of choral and solo piano music for Frederick Harris.

In late 1991 Leslie acquired the catalogue of Lenel Music Press, and in 1996, of Stuart Beaudoin Publications. In 1995 Leslie acquired the rights for Walter MacNutt's songs and a few others formerly published by Frederick Harris; they continued to reprint most of the Harris choral catalogue.

Into the 21st Century

In 2000 Patricia Leslie VanderHeyden assumed ownership of the company, and in 2001 the company was appointed distributor for Berandol Music Limited. The catalogue continued to expand, with works by prominent Canadian composers: John Govedas, Gerald Bales, Donald Coakley, R.W. Anderson, Barry Peters, James Wright, Bert VanderHoek, Michael Coghlan, D.G. Bell, Ruth Watson Henderson, Hugh Bancroft, Herbert Belyea, Craig Cassils, Clifford Crawley, Nancy Telfer, and Healey Willan.
