François-Xavier Tessier, doctor, politician (b at Québec C 15 Sept 1799; d there 1835). Tessier studied in Québec City and New York and was admitted to the practice of medicine in 1823.

François-Xavier Tessier, doctor, politician (b at Québec C 15 Sept 1799; d there 1835). Tessier studied in Québec City and New York and was admitted to the practice of medicine in 1823. He is known primarily for founding the first medical newspaper in Canada, Le Journal de médecine de Québec (Jan 1826-Oct 1827).
Despite his short life, his exceptional qualities brought him several important positions in the Québec region. He was named apothecary of the Emigrant Hospital in 1823; health officer for the port of Québec and administrator of the Pointe-Lévy Fever Hospital in 1830; and doctor of the Marine and Emigrant Hospital in 1834. He represented Saguenay in the Assembly of Lower Canada from 1833 until his death.
