Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux
Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux, née Coulombe, composer, teacher (b at Notre-Dame-de-la-Doré, Qué 9 Aug 1938; d at Montréal 2 Feb 1985). Her teachers included Claude CHAMPAGNE, Clermont PÉPIN and Pierre Schaeffer. A cofounder of the Groupe international de musique électroacoustique de Paris (1969) and of the Montréal percussion ensemble Polycousmie (1971), she played a role in contemporary music.
Regards (1978), a synthesis of her research, reveals a desire to rediscover sound in its pure state: live instrumentation is combined with recorded sequences without amplification. The work is characterized by the importance of the spatial parameter, as is Moments (1977), which is true musical theatre.
