They put us on a ship and said we’re on a long trip to must be Japan or Korea. It was Japan for a while and then Korea, carrying a rifle and whatever they wanted, they said they’d get as close to the front lines as possible. Very hilly and lots of rain and snow and anything to make life miserable, that’s what we were getting in the way of weather. Terrible weather. We were so busy and so tired that we were allowed to sleep, we just took advantage of it and had a good sleep. Keeping your head down, so you did not get hurt. But if my head were where my feet were when I got wounded, I wouldn’t be here today. The bomb hit close to my feet and took this one right up here, tore this open. I was invalided for quite a while because of the injury to the right foot and partially to the left foot.
