Irvin Albertson
My name is Irvin Albertson, and I enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in June 1940. I actually put in an application to join. I served in Kingston, Petawawa and Debert, and I went overseas in 1941. I served in England, and I trained there with the 14th Field Regiment RCA, 34th Battery, in 3rd Canadian Division.
We were sent to France on June the 6th, 1944. I have a copy of the routine order that posted me there. I served in Europe through D-Day and the Normandy campaign. The race across France to the channel ports. I went up to Belgium and I served in the Battle of the Scheldt Estuary, and the liberation of Holland, and I ended up the end of the war just outside Emden in Germany, where the peace terms were announced.
