My name is R. Bruce Wareing and I was born on July 4, 1930 at Rockwood, Manitoba in a farmhouse under the care of Doctor Goodwin. Both of my parents were from England. My Father served in the Royal Navy World War I and in the Canadian Army during World War II.

My ambition as a young boy was to join a Cavalry Regiment and so in 1949 I joined the Canadian Army Armoured Corps. At the termination of my training I was moved to the Lord Strathcona's Horse Regiment and in 1951 I volunteered for duty in Korea.

My training in the Military prepared me well for life as a responsible Canadian and gifted me the opportunity to serve and be with many fine people.

While I have bad memories, I am also blessed with many good ones of these people who trained, guided and put me on the correct path of life.

During my time spent in the Canadian Military, as an Active and Reserve soldier, I moved up the ladder starting as Trooper, and becoming Corporal, Lance Sergeant, and eventually a Commissioned Officer.

I retired from the Correctional Services of Canada in 1986. I can thank the Lord Strathcona's Horse Regiment and the regiment's motto "Perseverance" for all this.
