We trained at Victoria then we were sent overseas. To begin with, I was a midshipman, where you filled in all the gaps that weren’t filled in. You ran boats; you manned various gun positions, aboard battleships. We did everything as required aboard ship. It wasn’t a very important job we had but what the hell. We ran boats and to and fro ashore and so on and so forth as junior officers. And then later on, we, some of us spent time with carriers, flying off and on. That was out in the Far East with the Brits. And they were doing operations. I think we were around the far side, northeast side of Trincomalee Harbour, just near Ceylon.
