Alphonse Martin. Organist, pianist, teacher, b Trois-Rivières, Que, 18 Feb 1884, d Montreal 6 Jun 1947. A pupil of Lévis Dussault, he taught piano and organ in Montreal, where he was a member of the board of the Conservatoire royal de musique and organist at St Mary's Church.

Alvaro Pierri. Guitarist, teacher, b Montevideo, Uruguay, 18 Jan 1953. Born into a family of musicians, he began studying piano at four with his mother, Ada Estades, and one year later he began taking guitar lessons with his aunt, Olga Pierri.

Alvin (Harry) Reimer. Bass, teacher, b Winkler, Man, 5 Jun 1940; Bachelor of Religious Education and Diploma, Sacred Music (Mennonite Brethren Bible College) 1965, BA (Waterloo Lutheran) 1968, Künstlerische Reifeprüfung (Academy of Music, Detmold) 1978.

Amanda Forsyth. Cellist, b 12 Oct 1966. Daughter of composer Malcolm Forsyth. Forsyth began to study cello in Edmonton at age 3 and at 11 began 18 months of study in England with William Pleeth.

(Pierre-Joseph) Amédée Tremblay. Organist, composer, teacher, b Montreal 14 Apr 1876, d Los Angeles 1949. He began study at 12 with Father Sauvé, the organist at St-Joseph Church, Montreal, continuing with Alcibiade Béique (piano and organ) and Father Cléophas Borduas (Gregorian chant).

Amos Garrett. Guitarist, singer, trombonist, b Detroit 26 Nov 1941. He was taken at five to Toronto, where he studied trombone at the RCMT, and then at 12 to Montreal, where he began playing guitar.

André (Henri) Durieux. Violinist, conductor, arranger, teacher, b Paris 1899, d Montreal 18 Dec 1951. His family settled in Canada in 1911. He studied at the McGill Cons with Saul Brant and in Chicago with Otakar Ševčík and Leopold Auer.

André (Dédé) Fortin, author, singer, musician, performer (born November 17, 1962 in Saint-Thomas-Didyme in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec; died May 8, 2000 in Montréal).

André-Gilles Duchemin. Flutist, teacher, b Rouyn-Noranda, Que, 31 Jul 1952; premier prix flute (CMM) 1973. At seven he began piano and flute lessons at the Cons de Val-d'Or, where he continued to study until 1966.

(Joseph Philippe) André Laberge. Organist, harpsichordist, b Beauharnois, near Montreal, 23 Aug 1940; BA (Montreal) 1960, B TH (Sherbrooke) 1969, premier prix organ, harpsichord, analysis (CMM) 1972, deuxième prix counterpoint (CMM) 1973, premier prix organ (Toulouse Cons) 1978.

(Joseph) André (Roger) Laplante. Pianist, teacher, b Rimouski, Que, 12 Nov 1949; B MUS (Montreal) 1968, M MUS (Montreal) 1970. André Laplante began studying piano at seven and continued after 1964 at the École Vincent-d'Indy with Natalie Pépin and Yvonne Hubert.

(René) André (Rodolphe) Mathieu. Pianist, composer, b Montreal 18 Feb 1929, d there 2 Jun 1968.

(Joseph-Henri) André Mérineau. Organist, teacher, b Montreal 5 Oct 1929; premier prix organ (CMM) 1950, premier prix harmony (CMM) 1952. He took piano lessons from Gilberte Martin and Alfred La Liberté and studied the organ at the CMM with Georges-Émile Tanguay and Conrad Bernier.

André (Marcel) Mignault. Cellist, teacher, b Montreal 22 Dec 1931; premier prix cello (CMM) 1952, premier prix cello (Paris Cons) 1955.

André-Sébastien Savoie. Pianist, accompanist, coach, teacher, b Montreal 25 Jul 1935. At first a pupil of Charles Reiner, André-Sébastien Savoie continued his studies 1952-8 at the McGill Conservatory.
