Édouard Clarke. Pianist, organist, teacher, b Montreal 4 Nov 1867, d Biddeford, Me, 2 Feb 1917. He studied 1874-88 with Rosalie Euvrard, Paul Letondal, and Dominique Ducharme at the Institut Nazareth in Montreal. Despite his blindness Clarke was both a brilliant performer and a fine accompanist.

William Thomas, architect, engineer, surveyor (born 1799 in Suffolk, England; died 26 December 1860 in Toronto, ON).

Roger D'Astous, architect (b at Montréal, Que 3 March 1926; d at Montréal, Que 5 April 1998). A graduate of the Montréal School of Fine Arts in 1952, he went on to win a Taliesin Fellowship, spending from August 1952 to July 1953 in the studios of Frank Lloyd Wright in Wisconsin and Arizona.

In 1977 he completed, with James Righter and Peter Lanken, Pavilion Soixante-Dix, a ski pavilion in St. Sauveur, Qué, which was the only Canadian work included in Charles Jencks's The Language of Post-Modern Architecture (1977) and received a 1978 Progressive Architecture Design Award.

George J. (John) Dyke. Violinist, conductor, teacher, impresario, critic, b St Blazey, Cornwall, England, 23 Mar 1864, d Victoria, BC, 16 Mar 1940. He studied in St Austell and in Plymouth with John Parde (violin) and W. Willoughby (organ).

Grossman began folk dancing in grade school and, by 1960, was studying and performing modern dance with Gloria Unti. In 1963, at a summer course at Connecticut College, he met Paul Taylor, who invited him to join his company in New York City.

Peter William Jepson-Young, MD, AIDS activist, television diarist (born 8 June 1957 in New Westminster, British Columbia; died 15 November 1992 in Vancouver, British Columbia). Peter Jepson-Young was a medical doctor who presented the Dr. Peter Diaries, short weekly segments on CBC television that shared his experience with AIDS, in order to educate people about the disease and give hope to others. Diagnosed in 1986, he was regarded as one of the longest-surviving victims of the disease at the time of his death in 1992. Shortly before he died, he established the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, which later opened the Dr. Peter Centre, a residential care and day health centre for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Edward (Washington) Schuch. Choirmaster, teacher, critic, bass, b Manchester 20 Feb 1848, d Toronto 3 Mar 1940. He was educated in Toronto at Upper Canada College and served as choirmaster at several of Toronto's Anglican churches, including St James' Cathedral 1892-6.

Lola (Frances Lane) MacQuarrie (b Smith). Educator, writer, b Winnipeg 30 Dec 1909, d there 24 Jan 1966; B SC (Manitoba) 1931. She was steadily involved in Winnipeg musical life after 1920, notably in the 1940s as choir director at Daniel McIntyre High School.

Charles (Edward) Findlater. Choir director, teacher, adjudicator, b London 2 Jul 1893, d Vancouver 7 Aug 1975; ATCM 1930, LTCL 1933, Associate (Tonic Sol-Fa College, London) 1933. He arrived in Canada in 1914 and settled in Vancouver in 1918.
