Cairo Time
The film Cairo Time (2009), written and directed by Syrian-Canadian Ruba Nadda, stars Patricia Clarkson as Juliette, a Canadian who goes to Cairo to meet her husband who works for the United Nations. He is delayed in a refugee camp in Gaza and Juliette finds herself alone in an exotic foreign city. Portrayed by Alexander Siddig, the Egyptian Tareq is a handsome former associate of her husband who acts as her guide to the city. Cairo Time is a tranquil love story and the friendship between Juliette and Tareq remains innocent in spite of the strong attraction between them. The film is made gorgeous by Luc Montpellier's cinematography, the acting is strong and understated, the location is striking and the direction assured. Cairo Time was awarded best Canadian feature at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
