Cédia Brault
Cédia Brault, mezzo-soprano (b at Ste-Martine, Qué 4 Jan 1894; d at Montréal 27 June 1972). She studied voice with Céline Marier and Salvator Issaurel and harmony with Rodolphe MATHIEU. She made her debut as Carmen with tenor Victor Desautels in 1918 and, in 1920, married him. Carmen was also her last role (1939).
She performed in the premiere of Guillaume COUTURE's Jean le Précurseur. One of the first to perform the works of Ravel, Casella and Milhaud in Canada, she also gave the Canadian premiere of Léo-Pol MORIN's Chants de sacrifice and of Debussy's Proses lyriques. In 1928, on a visit to Montréal, Ravel praised her interpretation of his Chansons madécasses.
