Grandview

Grandview, Manitoba, incorporated as a village in 1906 and as a town in 1909, population 859 (2011c), 839 (2006c). The Town of Grandview nestles between Riding and Duck mountains on the Valley River, 360 km northwest of Winnipeg. As a service centre, Grandview relies on surrounding grain, livestock and dairy farms, and winter logging. Tourism has been encouraged by improved accessibility and amenities in Duck Mountain Provincial Park, the site of Baldy Mtn, the highest peak in Manitoba (832 m).

Early agricultural settlement began in the 1880s, but the area was not formally opened to homesteading until the 1890s. British and Ontario farmers, some moving from southern Manitoba, were followed 1900-10 by Ukrainian families. The Grandview townsite was established in 1900 in association with the planned extension of the Canadian Northern Ry west of Dauphin.
