John Bright Ferguson

John Bright Ferguson, "Fergie," chemist, professor (b at Londesborough, Ont 2 Nov 1889; d at Toronto 7 Jan 1963). Associate professor of physical chemistry at the University of Toronto 1920-48, he also spent 7 years with the Geophysical Laboratory in the Carnegie Institute, Washington, DC, where he solved problems in the manufacturing of optical glass for the War Industry Board, and he spent a short time with Western Electric Co in New York City. During WWII, he and his students undertook studies for the Canadian Army, including the development of a method for testing activated charcoals for use in respirators. He was the author of over 100 scientific papers.
