John Kenneth McKinnon

John Kenneth McKinnon, commissioner of the YUKON TERRITORY (b at Winnipeg, Man, 20 April 1936). McKinnon, though born and educated in Manitoba, has been a long-time resident of the Yukon. He was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in 1961 and was re-elected in 1967, 1970, and 1974.

John Kenneth McKinnon, commissioner of the YUKON TERRITORY (b at Winnipeg, Man, 20 April 1936). McKinnon, though born and educated in Manitoba, has been a long-time resident of the Yukon. He was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in 1961 and was re-elected in 1967, 1970, and 1974. He has served as minister of highways and public works (1976-78) and minister of local government (1974-78). McKinnon was chairman of the Alaska Highway Gas Pipeline hearings (1979), Yukon administrator for the Northern Pipeline Agency (1979-84), and a member of the Task Force on Northern Conservation (1983-84). In 1986, he was appointed commissioner of the Yukon, a position he held until 1995. From 2000-04 he was chancellor of Yukon College.
