Snag, Yukon Territory, was a community located at the mouth of Snag Creek, 465 km northwest of Whitehorse. The creek was so named in 1898 by members of the US Geological Survey, possibly because it was choked with dead trees.

 Snag, Yukon Territory, was a community located at the mouth of Snag Creek, 465 km northwest of Whitehorse. The creek was so named in 1898 by members of the US Geological Survey, possibly because it was choked with dead trees. In 1942 the federal Department of Transport established an emergency landing strip and a weather station, which were maintained until 1966. On 3 February 1947 the station recorded a temperature of -62.8°C, the lowest official temperature ever measured in Canada. This small native village was accessible by road from Snag Junction at kilometre 1895 of the ALASKA HIGHWAY.
