Evanshen, Terrance Anthony

Terrance Anthony Evanshen, football player (b at Montreal 13 June 1944). During a 14-year career in the CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE he developed into one of the most skilled pass receivers in CFL history. Known for his intense concentration, Evanshen caught 600 passes for 4 different CFL teams, totalling 9697 yards and 80 touchdowns, while fumbling only 3 times. When he retired only Tommy-Joe Coffey had caught more passes and gained more yards than Evanshen. His 80 receptions for touchdowns were an all-time CFL record. He began his career in 1965 with the Montreal Alouettes, leading the Eastern Conference in pass receptions and was named the EFC rookie of the year. He twice won the SCHENLEY AWARD as the Outstanding Canadian Player, in 1967 with Calgary and 1971 with Montreal. He still holds the CFL record for most games catching a pass (181) and most consecutive games catching a touchdown pass (10), and he shares the record for the longest pass reception in CFL history with Hal PATTERSON (109 yds). With Calgary in 1967 he established a single season record of 96 receptions and tied the record for most touchdown receptions; both records have since been broken. He retired after the 1978 season and was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1985.
