Clayton Oscar Person, scientist, educator (b at Regina, Sask 16 May 1922; d at Vancouver, BC 1 Sept 1990). Educated at Saskatoon, Alberta and overseas, Person worked at U Man, U of A and UBC. He is recognized internationally as an authority on the genetics of host-parasite relations. His writings have made a major contribution to the development of a rigorous theoretical basis for our understanding of how the genetic structure of parasitic populations interacts with that of their host populations. His theoretical methods have been applied widely in the practical management of parasitic diseases in agriculture and forestry.

In 1971 he was elected a fellow of the RSC; in 1981 he was awarded the BC Science Council's gold medal and was elected fellow of the American Phytopathological Soc; in 1982 he received the RSC's Flavelle Medal and the Genetics Soc of Canada's Award of Excellence. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1986.
