McIntosh, Dale

(Robert) Dale McIntosh. Music educator, musicologist, b Quill Lake, north of Regina, Sask, 25 Jun 1938; ARCT 1966, B ED (Alberta) 1969, M ED (Saskatchewan) 1970, M MUS (Alberta) 1972, PH D (Washington) 1979. He was a public school teacher and administrator in Saskatchewan before moving to Edmonton, where he was a researcher and sessional lecturer in music 1970-2 at the University of Alberta and supervisor of music and co-ordinator of performing arts 1972-4 for the Government of Alberta. He joined the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria in 1974 and became chairman of the Department of Art and Music Education in 1986. His research has included musical applications of computer technology, related to both the use of computers to organize historical data and the interfacing of computers and synthesizers to aid in music composition. In addition, he has developed a keen interest in the history of music in Victoria and British Columbia as a whole, and has published several articles and two books on these subjects. He is a director of the CMHS and a contributor to EMC.
