Periodical Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 to promote the development of free lance writers in Canada. One of its earliest achievements was the formulation of a Code of Ethics and a contract which defines the rights and obligations of both writers and publishers. Among the other services that PWAC offers are extensive online resources for members and access to mediation services. In addition, PWAC provides professional development workshops and seminars and lobbies for writer's interests in government and industries. The association has also produced the PWAC Guide to Roughing It In the Market and the PWAC Guide to Editing as a Sideline. The association, whose national office is in Toronto, represents a membership of over 300 writers across the country.
