Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek, Yukon, settlement, population 93 (2016 census), 103 (2011 census). The settlement of Beaver Creek is located on the Alaska Highway, 457 km northwest of Whitehorse.

History

At Beaver Creek on 20 October 1942, the 18th US Army Engineers grading the Alaska Highway north from Whitehorse met the 97th Engineers working south from Fairbanks. A small settlement took shape in the 1950s and it received a post office in 1958. It is the home of the White River First Nation.

Located just east of the Alaska-Yukon border, the settlement has a Canada Customs office, a landing strip, and service industries for travelers on the Alaska Highway. It is Canada’s most westerly community.
