Earle Parkhill Scarlett

Earle Parkhill Scarlett, physician (b at High Bluff, Man 27 June 1896; d at Calgary 14 June 1982). He received his BA from U Man in 1916 and then served in WWI with the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, was gassed in 1917 and severely wounded in 1918.

Earle Parkhill Scarlett, physician (b at High Bluff, Man 27 June 1896; d at Calgary 14 June 1982). He received his BA from U Man in 1916 and then served in WWI with the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, was gassed in 1917 and severely wounded in 1918. After medical studies at U of T and practice in the US, he joined the Calgary Associate Clinic in 1930 and was a leading Calgary physician until he retired in 1958. A writer of elegance, he was author of over 450 papers, a collection of which, edited by C.G. Roland, was published as In Sickness and in Health (1972). A man of culture, he was chancellor of U of A, 1952-58. His honours include doctorates from U of T, U of A and U of Calgary; he was one of the most respected Canadians of his time.
