Eugène Bourgeau, botanical collector (b at Brizon, France 20 Apr 1813; d at Paris, France Feb 1877). His interest in plants began early and as a young man he attracted the interest of the director of the Botanical Gardens at Lyons, where he learned the rudiments of botany. He collected plants in the Canary Islands, Spain, North Africa and Algeria.

In 1857 he was appointed collector to the British North American Exploring Expedition under John PALLISER. His enthusiasm and ability to co-operate with others drew praise from Palliser. During the expedition (1857-60) Bourgeau collected some 1200 species from western Canada.
