Haliburton House, a 1½ storey villa in WINDSOR, NS, was built in 1836 and originally set in a 16 ha estate. It was the home of Thomas Chandler HALIBURTON, one of Nova Scotia's most famous 19th-century figures.

Haliburton House, a 1½ storey villa in Windsor, NS, was built in 1836 and originally set in a 16 ha estate. It was the home of Thomas Chandler Haliburton, one of Nova Scotia's most famous 19th-century figures. Haliburton had a distinguished career as a lawyer, judge, historian and politician, but he is perhaps best remembered as the creator of Sam Slick (see clockmaker). Sam Slick, a smooth-talking Yankee clock seller, made Haliburton a best-selling writer. This house was one of Nova Scotia's first historic sites when acquired by the province in 1939. It is maintained as a house museum by the Nova Scotia Museum Complex and is open to the public from early June to mid-October.
