Helmcken Falls is located on the Murtle River at the entrance to British Columbia's Wells Gray Provincial Park, an area noted for its many waterfalls. It is the highest in the park and fifth highest in Canada. Situated in the southwest corner of the park, a region characterized by volcanic upheavals, the lava-layered falls have a 137 m vertical drop. They were named after the prominent BC physician John Sebastian HELMCKEN in 1913 by Premier Sir Richard MCBRIDE.
