Louis Caron, journalist, writer (b at Sorel, Qué 21 July 1942). He quit his classical studies to try several trades before becoming a journalist 1960-76, with Radio-Canada, Le Nouveliste of Trois-Rivières and the Québec government. After 1976 he devoted himself to writing.

He quit his classical studies to try several trades before becoming a journalist 1960-76, with Radio-Canada, Le Nouveliste of Trois-Rivières and the Québec government. After 1976 he devoted himself to writing. After his first works, L'Illusionniste and Le Guetteur (1978), came 4 novels, L'Emmitouflé (1977), Prix Hermès and Prix France-Canada; Le Bonhomme sept-heures; and the first 2 volumes of Fils de la Liberté - Le Canard de bois (1981), Prix France-Québec, produced as a TV serial, and La Corne de brume (1982).

In general, Caron takes his subjects from history but without ever writing so-called historical novels: the conscription crisis of 1917 (L'Emmitouflé), a 1955 earthquake in Nicolet (Le Bonhomme sept-heures), the Rebellions of 1837-38 (Le Canard de bois, La Corne de brume). Yet Caron is essentially a raconteur, with a vivid, graphic style. In 1986 he and journalist Réjean Tremblay co-wrote the TV series "Lance et compte".
