Screier, Michael
Michael Screier, photographer, teacher (b in Austria 19 Feb 1949). Screier arrived in Canada in 1953 and became a student of David HEATH. He graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (now Ryerson Polytechnic University) and received a MFA from Concordia University. From 1972 to 2006, he was a professor of photography at the University of Ottawa. He is represented in the collections of the NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA, the NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF CANADA, the Canada Council Art Bank and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. Screier works exclusively in colour. He was the first to make in-camera Cibachrome prints, which he continues to pursue today, but also makes large type-C colour prints from 35 mm negatives. He has also begun exploring the possibilities of digital imaging in his recent work.
