Paradise, NL, incorporated as a town in 1981, population 17 695 (2011c), 12 584 (2006c). The Town of Paradise is situated inland approximately 13 km from downtown ST JOHN'S. It was founded in the late 1800s as a farming and livestock area near the railway line connecting St John's to Harbour Grace. Many early settlers also travelled to Conception Bay to fish during the summer and further supplemented their income in the area's good forests, selling rinds for ships and wood for barrel making and fuel.
The modern community has grown rapidly from 191 people in 1945, mainly through the town's growth as a residential site. The major local occupation is construction but most residents commute to work in St John's.
