Timms, Philip Thomas
Philip Thomas Timms, commercial photographer, printer, amateur archaeologist, musician (b at Toronto 16 Sept 1874; d at Vancouver 8 Aug 1973). Perhaps Vancouver's best early photographer, Timms concentrated on postcards, prints and lantern slides which he processed and printed himself. He set out to record "everything in sight" - buildings, streets and parks - between 1900 and 1910, often carrying his large glass-plate camera by bicycle. A devout Christian, antivivisectionist and vegetarian, Timms showed a sensitive and unstudied approach in his photographs. His collection of negatives is in the Vancouver Public Library.
