Pubnico, NS, Unincorporated Place. Pubnico is located 30 km southeast of YARMOUTH, at the head of Pubnico Harbour. Several communities around the harbour share the name, from Lower East to Lower West Pubnico. The name evolved through many variations of the Native word pogomkoup ("land from which the trees have been removed to fit it for cultivation").

Philippe D'Entremont founded Pubnico on a grant from his friend Charles de LA TOUR in 1651 or 1653. In 1755 the ACADIANS were expelled from Nova Scotia, but many later made their way back. Today the D'Entremont surname survives in a large part of Pubnico's population. Musée Acadian celebrates the area's culture.

Shipbuilding was for some time a major industry in this area, acting as a support for trade in nearby Yarmouth. Both East and West Pubnico depend economically on fishing and farming, the region being famous for its lobsters during the winter season. Several small boat-building yards produce the famous Cape Sable Island fishing boat. In 2005 Atlantic Wind Power Corporation opened Nova Scotia's first 30.6 megawatt wind farm at Pubnico Point.
