Ray Fletcher Farquharson, physician, medical educator (b at Claude, Ont 4 Aug 1897; d at Ottawa 1 June 1965). Farquharson was Sir John and Lady Eaton Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto (1947-60), and first chairman of the Medical Research Council (Canada) in 1960, holding that position until his sudden death during a council meeting. Farquharson did significant research in pernicious anemia, Simmond's disease, anorexia nervosa and hyperparathyroidism. He was an excellent teacher and an outstanding consultant, much revered by his patients for his warm and sympathetic personality. He was consultant to the RCAF during WWII and president of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada from 1945-47.
