  Serge Tousignant, camera artist (b at Montréal 28 May 1942). His early work, after study at the École des beaux-arts, Montréal (1950-62), was as a painter and sculptor. His concern was the relationship between abstract structures and illusion, later broadened to include direct images of the natural world. He stopped painting after 1967 and by the early 1970s was working exclusively with photographic images. In 1978 he began the photographic series Geometrisation solaire, based on arrangements of sticks and the shadows they cast. The apparently arbitrary placement of the sticks is resolved by the consistent geometric figures formed by their shadows. Recent shows include photographs produced between 1982 and 1985 at the Galerie des arts visuels in Québec City in 1986.
