Sir Andrew Thomas Taylor, architect (b at Edinburgh, Scot Oct 1850; d at London, Eng 5 Dec 1937). He immigrated to Montréal in 1883 and during the next 20 years established 2 partnerships - Taylor, Gordon and Bousfield, and Taylor and Gordon. The latter firm was at the forefront of the architectural trends imported into late Victorian Montréal. Taylor and William Gordon were responsible for many MCGILL UNIVERSITY buildings during the decade of its greatest expansion and they did much to define the character of the campus as it is today. As architect to the Bank of Montreal, Taylor brought the New York firm of McKim, Mead and White to Montréal to renovate the bank on Place d'Armes (1900). He retired to London in 1904 and pursued a political career, for which he was knighted.
