Steele Narrows Battle

Often called the Battle of Loon Lake, it was a minor skirmish between about 65 men under North-West Mounted Police Superintendent Sam Steele and Woods and Plains Cree retreating after the Battle of Frenchman's Butte. None of Steele's men died but Cree losses were heavy. Four were killed, including prominent Woods Cree chief Cut Arm. The battlefield is a provincial historic site, marked with interpretive plaques.
