Union des écrivains québécois

Founded in Montréal in 1977, the Union des écrivains québécois (UNEQ) brings together francophone and anglophone Québec authors and writers, defending their rights and promoting Québec books. UNEQ has negotiated a publishing contract with the Association des éditeurs québécois and has received authors' royalties from the Québec Ministry of Education for photocopies made of their works in educational establishments. As well as being a centre for consultation, information and research, UNEQ organizes tours, meetings and conferences while also carrying on its work with the Québec government to ensure better distribution for writers and greater public recognition of their work. UNEQ currently has over 1000 members and provides a complete list of members on its website.
