Upper Liard, Yukon, settlement, population 125 (2016 census), 132 (2011 census). Upper Liard is located 7 km west of Watson Lake on
the Alaska Highway.
History and Economy
Upper Liard is a Kaska Dena community situated at the scenic Upper Liard River Bridge. The Liard River was named by voyageurs “Rivière aux Liards” after the species of poplar tree which grew along its banks. The economy of Upper Liard is based on tourism, in particular tourists travelling the Alaska Highway. Also of economic importance are forest products and other industries of the Watson Lake area.
