Lynn Gehl
Lynn Gehl is an Algonquin Anishinaabe-kwe and member of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation. She is an author, advocate, artist and public speaker whose work encompasses anti-colonial efforts and the celebration of Indigenous knowledge. She challenges Canada’s practices, policies and laws such as the land claims and self-government process and sex-discrimination in the Indian Act. Gehl’s work also focusses on the continued destruction of Akikpautik/Chaudière Falls, and Indigenous women and girls with disabilities who are disproportionately the targets of sexual violence. She has authored several books, namely Gehl v Canada, Claiming Anishinaabe, and The Truth that Wampum Tells. Gehl has made several contributions to journals and books, and written more than 140 op-eds and articles for magazines, websites and newspapers. She is frequently called upon by media outlets as an expert on Indigenous issues. She sometimes weaves wampum belts, builds petro-forms, carves and paints.
