    Frederick Kenneth Hare, CC, FRSC, environmental scientist, professor, administrator (born 5 February 1919 in Wylye, England; died 3 September 2002 in Oakville, ON). F. Kenneth Hare has been widely recognized for his research contributions in climatology and biogeography. During his career, he participated in several committees and commissions concerned with environmental issues, such as climate change, nuclear reactors and nuclear waste and acid rain (see Nuclear Energy).

    Matthew was a founding member of the Steinhammer Club (1857-1862) formed to study the GEOLOGY and PALAEONTOLOGY around Saint John. J.W. DAWSON encouraged the club to create the Natural History Society of New Brunswick in 1862 where Matthew would spend his geological career, largely as an "amateur.

    Moira Dunbar

    Isobel Moira Dunbar, OC, FRSC, ice research scientist, public servant (born 3 February 1918 in Edinburgh, Scotland; died 22 November 1999 in Ottawa, ON). Moira Dunbar was a Scottish-Canadian ice research scientist. Beginning in the 1950s, Dunbar was one of the first women to conduct polar ice research in the Canadian Arctic from icebreakers and airplanes. She was involved in national and joint international projects that sought to better understand the Arctic, particularly the defence capabilities of Canada during the Cold War. Dunbar’s publications helped standardize Arctic ice terminology in the field during a period of growing interest in the Canadian North.

    John (Jack) Archibald Armstrong, OC, business executive, geologist, engineer (born 24 March 1917 in Dauphin, Manitoba; died 26 December 2010 in Nanaimo, BC). Armstrong graduated from the University of Manitoba and worked four decades for Imperial Oil, Canada’s largest oil company. He served as its CEO (1973–81) and chairman (1974–81) before retiring 1982.
