Charles Alexander Allard

Charles Alexander Allard, businessman, medical doctor (b at Edmonton 19 Nov 1919; d 11 Aug 1991). Allard graduated in medicine from University of Alberta in 1943. From 1955 until 1969 he was a surgeon and then chief surgeon at the General Hospital in Edmonton.

Charles Alexander Allard, businessman, medical doctor (b at Edmonton 19 Nov 1919; d 11 Aug 1991). Allard graduated in medicine from University of Alberta in 1943. From 1955 until 1969 he was a surgeon and then chief surgeon at the General Hospital in Edmonton. He began his career as an entrepreneur when he constructed a clinic to house his own practice in 1947. He established Allarcom Developments, one of the largest real-estate companies in Canada, and was its president and chairman of the board until he sold it to Carma Developers of Calgary for $130 million in 1980. He was active in finance (North West Trust), life assurance (Seaboard Life Insurance) and the media (Allarcom Broadcasting, which in 1987, owned Edmonton's ITV station and western Canada's Super-Channel), and was a member of the board of directors of Allarco Developments. Upon his death his family controlled his media interests via WIC (WESTERN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS INC).
