Douglas Mason Fisher, politician, journalist (born 19 September 1919 in Sioux Lookout, ON; died 18 September 2009). Educated at the University of Toronto, Queen's and the University of London, he served overseas during WWII. Known as "The Giant Killer" after his first political campaign and smashing victory over C.D. HOWE in 1957, Fisher represented Port Arthur [Thunder Bay] for the CCF-NDP until his resignation in 1965. He became a syndicated columnist for the Toronto Telegram 1963-71, and then the Toronto Sun. He is now a columnist for the Ottawa Sun and since 1963 has had his own weekly TV political interview program on CJOH Ottawa. His interest in sports led to his appointment as a director of Hockey Canada (1971-78). Fisher co-authored Canada's Sporting Heroes (1975) and, with Dalton CAMP, 5 reports of the Ontario Commission on the Legislature (1971-74). As a newspaper columnist and TV host, he is seen as unbiased politically, one who emphasizes parliament, the federal party system and the individuality of Canada's political figures.
