Pierre Bourque. Saxophonist, teacher, b Plessisville, Que, 27 Jan 1938; premier prix (Paris Cons) 1961. While attending the Collège de Lévis, Bouque was a member of the Sainte-Cécile concert band (1948-55). He then continued his musical studies 1955-8 at the CMQ with Maurice DeCelles and 1958-61 at the Paris Cons in the class of Marcel Mule. He toured 1960-1 as a recitalist for the JMC (YMC)and in 1962 as a soloist with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra. In 1963 he founded the Pierre Bourque Saxophone Quartet. Pierre Bourque began teaching saxophone and wind chamber music classes at the CMQ in 1962 and also taught 1961-72 at the JMC Orford Art Centre and 1962-5 at Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière College. Among his pupils are Jean Bouchard, Claude Brisson, and Rémi Ménard. Bourque served 1972-3 as director of the Cons de musique de Chicoutimi. He has performed frequently with the Quebec SO and the CBC Quebec Chamber Orchestra.
