Sir Louis-Olivier Taillon

Sir Louis-Olivier Taillon, lawyer, premier of Québec 1887, 1892-96 (b at Terrebonne, Qué 26 Sept 1840; d at Montréal 25 Apr 1923). Known for his ultraconservative stance, especially on educational issues, he was first elected Conservative MNA in Montréal-Est (1875).

Sir Louis-Olivier Taillon, lawyer, premier of Québec 1887, 1892-96 (b at Terrebonne, Qué 26 Sept 1840; d at Montréal 25 Apr 1923). Known for his ultraconservative stance, especially on educational issues, he was first elected Conservative MNA in Montréal-Est (1875). He resigned in 1884, only to return a few months later. Premier for 4 days in Jan 1887, he had to yield to Honoré MERCIER, who then attacked him for his support of the federal Conservative government in its actions towards Louis RIEL. Again premier from Dec 1892 to Apr 1896, he headed an extremely conservative administration. After his resignation he briefly served as federal postmaster general.
