Zoltan Roman

Zoltan Roman. Musicologist, oboist, b Miskolc, Hungary, 7 Jun 1936, naturalized Canadian 1962; B MUS (British Columbia) 1962, MA (Toronto) 1965, PH D (Toronto) 1970. He studied the oboe in Miskolc and played in its State SO and State Opera until 1956.

Zoltan Roman. Musicologist, oboist, b Miskolc, Hungary, 7 Jun 1936, naturalized Canadian 1962; B MUS (British Columbia) 1962, MA (Toronto) 1965, PH D (Toronto) 1970. He studied the oboe in Miskolc and played in its State SO and State Opera until 1956. He arrived in Canada in 1957 and played 1959-60 in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has taught at the University of Toronto, and at the University of Calgary 1966-. He is recognized as a Mahler scholar and has contributed material on Mahler's career in Hungary and the United States to Kurt Blaukopf's Mahler, a documentary biography. He contributed the scholarly apparatus to Hans and Rosaleen Moldenhauer's Anton von Webern (1980). Roman was president 1985-7 of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the American Musicological Soc no date has been a board member of the Internationale Gustav Mahler Gesellschaft and the International Webern Society. He was editor 1977-9 of the CAUSM J (now CUMR) and served 1980-9 on the editorial board of CUMR. In 1982 he became co-editor of Periodica Musica. He has edited several vocal works for the critical collected works of Gustav Mahler.
