Canadian Liver Foundation

The Canadian Liver Foundation is the first organization in the world to devote itself exclusively to providing support for education and research into the causes and treatment of diseases of the liver. It was founded as the Canadian Hepatic Foundation in 1969, and the present name was adopted in 1979. There are over 100 known liver diseases which can affect all ages and which can be fatal; one in 12 Canadians suffers from some form of liver or biliary tract disease. Because much liver disease is preventable, the CLF promotes earlier and better diagnosis and increased general awareness. It supports the Liver Pathology Reference Centre and provides research grants and fellowships. The national office is in Toronto; financial support is derived from corporate sources (6%), private individuals (88%) and other non-governmental sources.
