Canadian Music Centre

The Canadian Music Centre, founded in 1959, is an arts service organization supporting hundreds of Canada's serious or concert composers. Composers become CMC associates after being selected by a committee of their peers. The national office and library of the centre is in Toronto; regional centres are in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montréal, with a mini-centre located in Sackville, New Brunswick. By collecting, freely distributing and promoting the associates' music, the CMC aims to encourage the study, performance and appreciation of these compositions. It offers the public and music groups both in Canada and overseas information on the associates, publications on the 14 000 scores in its libraries and inexpensive reproductions of the music itself. Centrediscs, the CMC's record label, produces and distributes quality discs of associates' works performed by Canadian concert artists. These recordings are distributed through the CMC Distribution Service, which also sells other recordings of Canadian specialized music.
