Colin Fox is a distinguished character actor who studied English at the University of Western Ontario and attended the National Theatre School in Montréal. He began acting in plays at the Grand Theatre in London, Ont., and in 1966 he performed at Stratford (winning a Tyrone Guthrie Award) and did a stint at the Manitoba Theatre Centre. Fox lived in New York City for 6 years in the 1980s, appearing in the 1985 Broadway production of Hugh Whitemore's Pack of Lies and several Off-Broadway shows. He starred in the one-man show Guthrie on Guthrie, written by Margaret Dale, which premiered at Stratford in 1991.

He won a Canadian Film Award in 1971 as best actor for his portrayal of Lord Durham in the CBC drama Durham and the Two Nations and the 1976 CBC Anik Award for best narration in a two-part documentary on the painter Emily Carr. His other film and television credits include The Reincarnate (1971), Al Waxman's My Pleasure Is My Business (1975), the miniseries A Man Called Intrepid (1979), Allan King's Silence of the North (1981), Bob Clark's A Christmas Story (1983), Donald Brittain's Canada's Sweetheart: The Saga of Hal C. Banks (1985), Beautiful Dreamers (1990), the miniseries Conspiracy of Silence (1991), Dieppe (1993), On My Own (1993), Butterbox Babies (1995), the miniseries Hiroshima (1995), Tommy Boy (1995), Mrs. Winterbourne (1996), Daylight (1996), the television movie Elvis Meets Nixon (1997) and Michael McCowan's One Week (2009).

In series television, Fox's credits include Beetlejuice (voice), Maniac Mansion, Goosebumps, Rupert (voice), PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal as Professor Anton Hendricks in the popular series hosted by Dan Aykroyd, and A Nero Wolfe Mystery (2001-02) as Wolfe's Swiss chef Fritz Brenner.

Colin Fox won a Gemini Award in 2009 for the animated series Atomic Betty (best individual or ensemble performance in an animated program) and was nominated in 2005 for Puppets Who Kill (best individual performance in a comedy program). Fox has narrated a number of audio book recordings as well as a children's CD, Tchaikovsky Discovers America, which received a 1994 Juno Award for best children's album.
