Pimicikamak Cree Nation (formerly Cross Lake Band, also known as Nikickonakos or “otter people”) is located roughly 520 km north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, along the shore of the Nelson River at its entrance to Cross Lake. There are seven primary districts that residents live in: Natimik, See-pee-seek, Wapak, Saggitawak, Central, R.C. Mission and Sawmill. Residents are primarily Cree and the dominant Indigenous language amongst members is Woods Cree.
As of July 2024, the registered population was 9,580, with 6,640 members living on Pimicikamak Cree Nation’s reserve and 2,776 members living off-reserve. Across the various reserves, the Pimicikamak Cree Nation inhabits 10,438.6 hectares.
