Biggar, Henry Percival
Henry Percival Biggar, historian, archivist (b at Carrying Place, Ont 9 Aug 1872; d at Worplesdon, Eng 25 July 1938). Educated at Upper Canada College, University of Toronto and Oxford, he joined the National Archives of Canada and served as chief archivist for Canada in Europe from 1905 until his death.
An authority on the history of New France, he wrote The Early Trading Companies of New France (1901), and edited The Precursors of Jacques Cartier (1911) and A Collection of Documents relating to Jacques Cartier and the Sieur de Roberval (1930). He translated and edited The Voyages of Jacques Cartier (1924) and was general editor of The Works of Samuel de Champlain (1922-36).
