Hiram Walker Resources Ltd
Hiram Walker Resources Ltd, with head offices in Toronto, was a Canadian holding company with diverse interests. The company was incorporated as the Consumers' Gas Co in 1848 in the Province of Canada. In 1979 shareholders of Cygnus Corporation Ltd and Home Oil Co Ltd approved their own joint merger, and subsequently one with Consumers Gas. A year later, stockholders approved the merger of distiller Hiram Walker-Gooderham & Worts Ltd with the company and its wholly owned subsidiary, Home Oil Co Ltd. The name change to Hiram Walker Resources Ltd followed. In a complex series of transactions, major interests in the company were acquired by Gulf Canada Corp (controlled by the REICHMANN FAMILY ) and the British firm Allied-Lyons in 1987. Later that year Gulf's interests were transferred to another Reichmann controlled company, GW Utilities of Toronto and HWR ceased to exist.
